Salvation Army Design-A-Bin

Richard Araujo
Through my art piece for the Design-A-Bin contest, I attempted to portray what I do to contribute to “doing the most good” - which is the Salvation Army’s motto. I tutor, so the portrait shows me tutoring a teenager, which is what I do after school. I am accompanied by two friendly tools, a pencil and a book to give the viewer hints of what I tutor about. Located on the paper is my job if the viewer did not already know and also a catchphrase to encourage students to go to tutoring whenever they need help, because it will ultimately lead them to success. I tutor English, which is why the design includes the words: “Read and write your way to success.” There is also a Salvation Army logo plaque within a frame to symbolize how my work and their work are related, which is in doing the most good within a community.
